Essential elements of a quality humidor: Seal should not be airtight but should allow for the cigars to "breathe" like fine wine. When the lid is dropped from 2-3 inches, the lid should not "clang" shut but should land on a cushion of air. Hidden quadrant hinges and/or piano hinges help in this regard. The interior should be lined in Kiln-Dried Spanish Cedar as this type of wood will not impart any odors and is quite resistant to humid environments without warping or cracking. Important Note: You should refrain from placing cigars into newly purchased humidors before "seasoning" them.  The wood in a new humidor will suck up the moisture in your cigars and ruin them.  To season your new humidor, place a "charged" humidification system (humidifier with distilled water added) or a small dish of distilled water into the humidor.  Wait until the hygrometer measures approximatley 65-70% humidity before you place your cigars in the new humidor.  This could take approximately 7 days depending on the size of the humidor.  But a little patience is better than ruining a box of your favorite cigars!
