Premium HumidorsIf you serious about your cigars, then you need a quality humidor. Properly maintained, a humidor will keep you cigars fresh for a number of years. A humidor for cigars, is a specially made box that is engineered to allow for outside air exchange, but tight enough to maintain a optimal humidity of 70RH.
Why risk you best cigars to a home made solution or worse yet, a plastic solution many call a coolador. Cooladors are just Coleman ice chests with a humidification device installed. Heck, we have heard of people storing their premium hand rolled cigars in the freezer! That really won't work.
Properly constructed and properly maintained, there is no substitute for a humidor to maintain your best cigars. If your going to buy the best cigars, then why trust their care to something other than a humidor?
Cigar HumidorA cigar humidor is made to have a certain amount of outside air exchange. They are not meant to be air tight. An air tight cigar humidor will do nothing but grow mold and bloom on your cigars. We have seen some websites on the internet market jewelry boxes as humidors. Really, with the felt lining on the inside! A real cigar humidor will have it's interior lined in kiln-dried Spanish cedar, as this is the most aroma neutral wood on the market today. Certain steps must be taken to properly set up the new cigar humidor. You just can't open up your new cigar humidor and throw your cigars in there. The cigar humidor must be seasoned first. Seasoning will add moisture to the kiln-dried Spanish cedar. Failure to season the humidor will result in the kiln-dried wood sucking all the moisture out of your cigars. Instructions for seasoning your new humidor and for calibrating your analog hygrometer can be found in our knowledge base section. |
